One of the fastest growing industries in these six counties is the re-writing and revising of Irish history, millions of pounds have been poured into it, all to attempt to replace the actual history of these six north eastern counties, Antrim, Down, Fermanagh, Derry, Tyrone and Armagh with an acceptable "Northern Irish " identity. The Irish Catholic aspect of the history is being deliberately bastardised and prostituted and brushed under the carpet in this "Ulsterisation" programme. The British Lottery Money in particular is being majorly used to this aim, Belfast Council revenue is being spent on some of the most rediculous sources of misinformation on signage etc, etc, one could imagine, and they make no apology for it. The Tourist Welcome Office in Donegall Place is totally ignorant of local historic spots for visitors to visit, on a test I ran by phone to the office they failed 10 out of 10, but they did suggest visting the "Titanic Quarter", it seems all life began in this region with the building of a badly designed and criminally equiped ship that sank on its maiden voyage, that is our heritage , that is what we should be proud of.??
West Belfast has no vehicle whatsoever to harnass and promote the rich history and heritage of this only link to our ancient past, it is as though the region stemmed from a barren desert, is it through ignorance, or political expediancy ? the big question is ...Why is this being allowed to happen?, no where in the "Belfast Agreement" can I see any reference that Irish Catholic History and Heritage must be forfeited in the interests of "Peace", and if I missed that point then I feel it is time to perhaps to re-look at this document, and any such offensive clauses removed immediately, for we are paying too high a price. In one generation we will all end up celebrating St. Patrick's Day as nice little West Brits, waving City Hall supplied wee BLUE flags outside the Custom House. If any of you "Historians" are offended by this, all I can say is GOOD!!!. if the cap fits wear it.
